The Danish socialite also compared herself to Wallis Simpson, a US socialite whose marriage to the Duke of Windsor caused backlash in the 1930s and led to him abdicating the throne. Speaking of hostility in the media, Ms Sayn-Wittgenstein claimed it is usually directed towards women in the relationship rather than men.
She used coverage of Meghan Markle’s relationship with Prince Harry as an example.
She told The Telegraph: “There is a tendency that when people cannot control a powerful man, they destroy the object of his affection.
“You can even see it with Meghan and Harry. The hostility always goes to the woman and the poor man is this helpless creature who has been horribly manipulated and it is the woman who has plunged the country into a huge crisis.”
The socialite and entrepreneur was first revealed to have been involved in some way with Mr Carlos in 2012 during an elephant-hunting trip which sparked fierce backlash.
Ms Sayn-Wittgenstein claims her presence was leaked on purpose by the head of Spain’s secret service.
Following the trip, she claims mercenaries spent six weeks guarding her apartment on Monaco, who stole personal paperwork.

That involved a $100 million gift to the king by Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah.
Mr Carlos did abdicate in 2014 following criticism over the hunting trip as well as a corruption investigation.
This summer, the former king fled to the United Arab Emirates after Spain’s Supreme Court began investigating whether he was involved in a high-speed rail contract in Saudi Arabia.
Ms Sayn-Wittgenstein is not alone in having spoken out about harassment recently.
Earlier this month, Meghan Markle said the online abuse she suffered in 2019 was “almost unsurvivable”.
The Duchess of Sussex was speaking to a group of teenagers from the Teenager Therapy podcast in the US alongside husband Prince Harry.
She remarked how she was said to be the “most trolled person in the entire world” in 2019.
Meghan added: “For eight months of that, I wasn’t even visible. I was on maternity leave or with a baby, but what was able to be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable.”
Meanwhile Prince Harry revealed meditation has helped him deal with the online negativity he also faces.
The Duke added: “The importance of creating the time in your day to take a breath and focus on the things that really matter, that builds up a certain amount of resilience.”
The interview coincided with World Mental Health Day.
