Boris Johnson is facing a revolt from his Conservative Party MPs over the handling of the coronavirus pandemic. During an address by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, Tory MP Sir Edward Leigh openly accused the Government of teetering towards authoritarianism and dictator ruling. The 1922 Committee of Conservative MP said: “The Government’s approach is authoritarianism and becoming increasingly incompetent.”

The Conservative MP Pauline Latham has also asked the Health Secretary to remind the Prime Minister that people “live in a democracy not a dictatorship”.

The Daily Telegraph’s chief political correspondent claimed that Boris Johnson is expected to meet with the influential 1922 committee tonight as well.

In a tweet, he wrote: “Boris Johnson is due to meet a small group of members of the 1922 committee of backbench MPs tonight ahead of his Commons statement on COVID-19 tomorrow.

“The PM is clearly getting around the key people, he spoke with first ministers at lunchtime.
