Coronavirus lockdown measures have been reintroduced to several areas in Britain as part of the Government’s strategy for localised responses to surges. Preston is the latest part of the UK to face a tightening of lockdown measures after rising coronavirus infection rates were reported in the city. Express.co.uk has compiled a guide to show which areas have been locked down and those being monitored.

Britain has seen more than 300,000 cases of coronavirus so far and more than 46,000 have died according to the latest Public Health England figures.

Daily confirmed cases have begun to rise in recent weeks after they fell significantly from their April peak as a result of lockdown restrictions imposed a month earlier.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the government now has to “squeeze that brake pedal” and has postponed further easing of measures across England.

On Friday, Public Health England reported 871 new cases, of which 796 were in England, 43 in Scotland, 17 in Wales and 15 in Northern Ireland.
