Britons spent over seven weeks in full coronavirus lockdown, with the Government only permitting people to leave their homes for just a handful of reasons, such as shopping for food, carrying out essential work and one form of daily exercise. The strict measures started to ease from mid-May, as some non-essential shops started to reopen and people were allowed to meet up with one other person outside.
Lockdown restrictions have now eased substantially, with pubs, gyms and shops having reopened and people are permitted to enter other people’s homes.
Although rules are still in place, such as the wearing of face coverings, the 1metre-plus social distancing rule and restrictions on the number of people you are allowed to meet up with, it is still a far cry from the lockdown of March and April.
But the pandemic is not yet over, and the Prime Minister could decide to reimpose a mass lockdown to prevent a second outbreak of the deadly virus.

Several scientific experts have warned a full lockdown could be introduced in just a matter of weeks, as the number of cases continue to creep up.
Sir David King, a former chief scientific adviser to the Government, urged Mr Johnson to introduce a comprehensive test and trace system by next month.
He said: “We need a proper test and trace system by September. Otherwise, full school opening will put us right back.
“We will see the Government backing lockdowns and, yes, I do think this could happen nationally.”

Cases have spiked in a number of areas, prompting the Government and local authorities to impose local lockdowns.
Leicester was the first city to be put back under lockdown, followed by the introduction of fresh measures across Greater Manchester, eastern Lancashire and parts of Yorkshire.
Lockdown measures were also implemented in Preston last week.
The new measures ban as many as four million people living in the localities from meeting people from different households indoors.
Under the new lockdown restrictions, pubs and restaurants are allowed to stay open, but two households are no longer allowed to meet there.
The restriction extends to cafes, shops, places of worship, community centres, leisure and entertainment venues.
New laws are being implemented to enforce the changes, with police able to take action if people flout the ban on meeting in homes and gardens.
Officers will have the power to break up gatherings and issue fines of up to £100, which will double for subsequent offences.
