LBC’s Ian Payne spoke to caller Karen who was overwhelmed with emotion as she detailed her experience with having coronavirus. The 76-year-old insisted the wider public needed to understand the truth of the disease. She also pleaded with the public to follow the current coronavirus rules to prevent others going through her ordeal.

While Karen confirmed she has now recovered physically from the disease she insisted she had not yet mentally recovered.

Caller Karen said: “I was the fittest 76-year-old and I thought I was going to die.

“I was so ill for days and days with no taste, no smell, chronic diarrhoea.

“I phoned the paramedics and they took me to my local hospital and it was unbelievable.

“Unbelievable just watching paramedics just bring people in one after the other.

“I was severely dehydrated and my heart was racing.

“I was talking to the lady in the cubicle next to me and then she collapsed on the floor.

“People just really need to see the truth of what is going on.

Karen closed with a heartwrenching plea to Britons and said: “Please everybody listening, it is real and it is scary and it hurts.

“If you are old you think you are going to die you really do.”
