Eerie photos taken on a Mersey beach show the shipwreck rising up from the water covered in barnacles. According to the Liverpool Echo, this shipwreck can only be seen a few times per year. The vessel became stranded in October 1939.

In that year, because of extremely low tides, it became visible off the shore Formby.

The ship was named the Ionic Star and ran aground in shallows near Liverpool.

It had cargo on board of meat, fruit, and cotton.

The stranded ship was abandoned by its crew and the sea has gradually eroded it until it has become a skeleton of its former self.

The low tide on that day gave him a remarkable rare glimpse of the vessel.

In low tide this year people may be able to see the wreckage from the Merseyside shoreline.

The wreckage has been used by the RAF for target practice in the past.

The ship now resembles a metallic husk.

It is used as a perch for seabirds.

The ship was built in 1917 by the Blue Star Line.

The vessel was travelling Liverpool from Rio De Janeiro when it ran aground.

The cargo on the ship was salvaged at the time.

No lives were lost when the ship ran aground in the shallows.
