The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge helped make bagels at a famous bagel shop on Brick Lane and Kate was complimented for her skills. In fact, she was so impressive at baking that one staff member joked that she was after her job. Wearing masks, aprons and gloves and after sanitising their hands, the pair got stuck in, rolling huge balls of dough weighing more than 7lbs, which makes around 30 bagels.
Kate quickly kneaded her cut of dough into a round ball, while William took longer creating the right shape.
Fiona McVeagh, 64, who had worked at the Beigel Bake Brick Lane Bakery for 33 years, said: “They are pretty good, especially her ‒ she clearly knows how to bake.”
Kate laughed and said: “Just wait until you see the aftermath. I had beginner’s luck, they are getting worse!”
However, after they carefully placed their balls onto trays ready for the next stage in the process, Ms McVeagh joked “you’re after my job”.

It seems Kate, who stunned in a Beulah dress and tan heels at the engagement last month, has been brushing up on her skills during lockdown.

This week, it starred Mirror Online lifestyle editor Zoey Forsey who raved about William and Kate’s latest engagement.
She said: “Their day in east London was brilliant when they went and made the bagels in Brick Lane.

“They went into the kitchen and helped the chefs make up the bagels and they were rolling these huge big balls of dough ‒ each of the balls was enough to make 30 bagels, so you can imagine the size of them, they were huge.
“Kate was complimented actually, one of the staff actually joked that she was after her job because she was that good at doing it.
“But Kate wasn’t having any of it, she said it was all beginner’s luck, but I don’t think she quite got away with that, I think she definitely knows what she’s doing.
“All that practicing I think ‒ they said they’ve been doing lots of baking over lockdown, haven’t they? So clearly she’s perfected her skills by the sound of it.”

Kate and William were met with crowds on Brick Lane
The shop the royal couple visited, called the Beigel Bake Brick Lane Bakery, has been a popular institution for over 40 years.
The 24-hour bakery has become the staple of clubbers, shift workers and tourists drawn to its renowned salt beef bagels, which give a taste of the food once popular with the East End’s former Jewish community.
When the couple first arrived, Amnon Cohen, 70, one of the co-founders, who started the bakery with his late brother Asher Cohen, said: “We’ve been here 41 years, thank you for coming.”
The Duke and Duchess were introduced to the workers and taken through by Amnon’s son Elias Cohen, 27, to watch the bagels being made from scratch.
He explained how they had had to furlough staff during lockdown, but were later able to slowly expand their hours until they were open 24/7 again.
He said: “It’s steady, we are serving. But it’s not like it was before. It’s definitely quieter.”
He added that the business had been helped by the fact that they already started working on a home delivery app and have been working with a food donation programme, Feast, to distribute unsold bagels.
Ms Forsey said on the podcast: “They did a number of engagements around the London area, learning about how businesses have been dealing with COVID.
“But they went and made bagels in this really famous bagel shop ‒ if you haven’t been, you should definitely go, it’s lovely.
“It’s always really busy, it’s open 24 hours, it’s always there really late, you always queued up ‒ you know, back in the day when you didn’t have to queue outside for everything, when that was quite a novelty, you would still queue down the street, not just in a one-customer at a time set-up.”
