Actresses Dakota and Elle Fanning are distant cousins of the Duchess of Cambridge. Dakota is known for her film roles in Twilight, Coraline and Ocean’s 8.  While her sister, Elle, is famous for playing Princess Aurora in the live-action movie Maleficent.

According to some research commissioned by People Magazine, the Fanning sisters are granddaughters of King Edward III.

Historians from Ancestry.com discovered that Elle is the 22nd great-granddaughter of King Edward III.

The monarch ruled England for 50 years from 1330 to 1376.

Edward III was crowned king at the age of 14 after his father was deposed by his mother.

His reign was the second-longest in medieval English history.

King Edward III went on to marry Philippa of Hainault.

According to People magazine, researchers looked through about 700 years’ worth of historical documents including census records, birth and death certificates, baptism and burial records.

They discovered that the Fanning sisters are linked to King Edward III through their mother Heather Joy Arrington.

A source close to the Duchess told People magazine: “At the end of the day, she’s in training to be a future Queen, but honestly you would never know it.

“If you go round to her house, you get a cup of tea, and it’s often William who makes it!

“It’s a lovely, welcoming house, not a fancy, stuffy palace in any way.”

The Kensington Palace Instagram, along with other royal social media accounts, wishes the Duchess a happy birthday.
