The national anthem, composed by Thomas Arne, is currently sang with the words “God Save the Queen”.

This has been the case for more than six decades and something most Britons have grown up with.

But when the Prince of Wales is King, the anthem will revert to its male version “God Save the King”.

This version was used before Elizabeth II became Queen, but hasn’t been used as an anthem since 1952.
