In the footage a woman approaches Mr Varadkar and a camera crew before stopping to talk to them. The woman then steps towards Mr Varadkar before hurling her drink at him and then running away.
The woman could be seen wearing a face mask and had a skateboard tucked underneath her arm.
Journalist Darren Cleary tweeted the footage and said: “You can dislike Leo Varadkar, you can criticise his policies, you can disagree with him, but this is nasty and unnecessary thing to do.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Vile unacceptable behaviour. We’ve had enough politically motivated violence for decades.
“Acts like this cannot be tolerated in a civilised society. Stiff sentence & jail time required.”
A third tweeted: “Whoever she is and whatever her agenda is , she assaulted Leo Varadkar. She should be in a Garda station being charged!
“This isn’t about politics it’s about Irish society.”
Another wrote: “Absolutely disgraceful behaviour no doubt about it.”
