The Lotto is the oldest National Lottery game, attracting thousands of UK players to its prizes every week since it kicked off in 1994. Millions of pounds have been awarded in prizes and raised for good causes, helping communities across the country. This week is a double rollover, meaning one lucky person will walk away with a staggeringly life-changing sum of £5.3million.

The lottery donates a percentage of its earnings from tickets to help a number of projects around the UK.

The Good Causes Fund receives 28p from every £1 scent on tickets for National Lottery games.

This includes EuroMillions, Lotto, Hotpicks and Thunderball as well as scratch cards and instant games.

In total, this makes up an estimated £30million every week, meaning since its launch in 1994 more than £40billion has been distributed to social organisations and charities.

You can play up to seven lines of numbers on each play slip, and have the option of buying up to 10 slips at any one time.

Choose to play on a Wednesday, Saturday, or both and then decide the number of weeks you would like to play for.

If one lucky person matches all the main six numbers tonight, they will scoop a huge prize of more than £5million.

If you are fortunate enough to match the five main numbers plus the Bonus ball, you will take home a generous £1million.

Matching the five main numbers without the Bonus ball will bag you £1,750, while getting all four of the main numbers offers a prize of £140.

For three numbers, winners will take home £3, and matching two means you get a free Lucky Dip.

Since starting in the mid-90s, the Lotto has seen a number of changes, including the addition of a Wednesday draw where originally the game was just played on Saturdays.

Amendments were brought in November 2018, increasing the secondary prize to £1million and cutting down the number of jackpot rollovers to five consecutive draws.
