THE Mayor of Luton has quit after he was pictured flouting lockdown rules at a party just days before cases surged in the town.

Tahir Malik and two other councillors were forced to apologise after the photographs of them at the garden party were shared online.

It comes as pubs have closed in Aberdeen tonight following a fresh outbreak of coronavirus in the city.

All indoor and outdoor hospitality venues in Aberdeen shut at 5pm this evening after 54 new coronavirus cases were linked to 20 pubs and restaurants in the area.

It comes as the global death toll has now passed 700,000 – meaning the bug is killing one person every 15 seconds.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus death toll rose to 46,364, bringing the total number of cases to 307,184.
