A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex insisted it would be “a little presumptuous” due to coronavirus restrictions. The insider spoke out following reports Meghan and Harry are planning to return for the royal event – which marks the Queen’s official birthday – in June.

The source told the Telegraph: “It’s a little presumptuous for any of us to be speculating about whether we can travel anywhere this summer.”

Meghan and Harry are living in California after quitting royal duties last March.

The military parade at Buckingham Palace on June 12 would be the first reunion of the Royal Family since the Sussexes’ departure – dubbed Megxit.

Claims the couple may not travel to Britain for Trooping the Colour come after royal aides told the Sunday Times that Meghan and Harry were expected to join the Queen at the event.

A royal aide added: “The current plan is for the Queen’s birthday parade to go ahead in London as normal, with the acceptance that it may need to be adapted or scaled back depending on what guidelines are in force at the time.

“But the aspiration and the ultimate desire is to make it happen.”

A final decision on the scale of the event will reportedly be made in the spring.

A mini Trooping the Colour was staged at Windsor Castle, where the monarch has spent much of the pandemic, last year.

They have signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify.

Little Archie made an appearance on their first Spotify podcast which was released in December.

Meghan and Harry have also established their Archewell foundation.

A year on from sparking Megxit, the couple are said to be in a “very good place”.

A source said: “After a very turbulent 12 months for everyone in the world and massive changes of moving country and all the rest of it, they have also been very vocal about what they have gone through in their own personal life.

“They have a house. They have created the financial independence that they were after.

“They have launched their organisation and their organisation is under way doing amazing things already.

“And so I think that they are in a very good place.”
