Meghan and Prince Harry are continuing to explore new ways to earn a living after broking free of the Royal Family and their full-time jobs as senior royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, however, will have to pause public speaking plans, according to a source, and focus on other projects instead.

The source told Vanity Fair: “They have to earn a living and clearly there isn’t a market for after-dinner talking right now, so the public speaking is on hold for the moment and they are exploring other avenues.”

The couple is also widely believed to have been pitching TV projects to networks “on a regular basis”.

The source said: “The focus is on production at the moment and I can see them making a series rather than Meghan starring in front of the camera”.

Speculation regarding public speaking gigs began in late June, when the couple signed with the Harry Walker Agency.

This firm represents several high-profile individuals including Oprah and the Obamas.

Meghan and Harry are widely believed to have been financially supported by Prince Charles over the past few months.

However, the couple have used their own money – income gained by Meghan during her acting years as well as Harry’s personal wealth – to buy their first house in Montecito, Santa Barbara, according to royal author Omid Scobie.

He told ET online: “There’s been a lot of speculation about Prince Charles potentially funding this.

“But this is really a moment for them to find their independence. They’ve done this on their own.

“Like many couples, they have a mortgage.

“It is a peaceful home. It’s a forever home and somewhere where they’ll lay their roots.

“It has space for Archie, a playground.

“Really, it’s gonna be a special part of their life.”

Speaking about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ personal finances, Mr Scobie said: “Both of them are extremely liquid when it comes to their assets.

“Harry brings a lot to the table himself and Meghan lives off residuals from Suits and the many appearances that she’s done in other projects too.”

While they explore ways to become financially independent from the Royal Family, Meghan and Harry are dedicating their time to causes close to their hearts – including the Black Lives Matter movement and US politics.

The Vanity Fair source said: “The focus is on projects and campaigns that mean something to them and are in line with their views, so that includes civil rights, women empowerment and movements like BLM.”

Over the past few weeks, Meghan has joined several events to speak about the importance of register to vote ahead of the US election on November 3.

Most recently, the Duchess joined a conversation with activist and feminist Gloria Steinem.

Among the topics the pair touched upon, there were voting rights, feminism and race equality.

Speaking about Prince Harry, Meghan said he was a feminist just like her and was setting a great example for their child Archie.

She said: “I look at our son and what a beautiful example that he gets to grow up with a father who is so comfortable owning that as part of his own self-identification.

“That there’s no shame in being someone who advocates for fundamental human rights for everyone, which of course includes women.”
