Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expected to visit the UK later this year to mark the Queen’s 95th birthday. The monarch is hoping to hold Trooping the Colour as normal on June 12 this year, the annual military parade that commemorates the Queen’s birthday and sees the Royal Family gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

A final decision on the scale of Trooping the Colour is expected to be made in the spring after a mini version was held at Windsor Castle last year due to the pandemic.

A royal aide told the Sunday Times: “The current plan is for the Queen’s birthday parade to go ahead in London as normal, with the acceptance that it may need to be adapted or scaled back depending on what guidelines are in force at the time.

“But the aspiration and the ultimate desire is to make it happen.”

In response, Express.co.uk asked its readers whether they thought the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should return for the special occasion, should it be able to go ahead.

The poll, carried out from 1pm-9pm on Wednesday January 13, asked: “Should Meghan Markle and Prince Harry return to UK for the Queen’s birthday?”

Of the 4,053 voters, the vast majority thought the Sussexes should not fly back to the UK for the event as 88 percent (3,546 people) voted “no”.

Eleven percent (452 people) voted “yes”, while just one percent (56 people) opted for “don’t know”.

Readers then took to the comments to explain why they thought Meghan and Harry should stay in the US.

“People will boo and turn their backs on them.”

A third said: “I voted No for them not to come because of their attitude towards the RF and the UK.”

Another user simply wrote: “Not wanted here.”

Several other readers suggested Prince Harry and son Arhice should return without Meghan.

They wrote: “Were it up to me, I’d say Harry & Archie should come, in a private capacity because they are still the Queen’s grandson and great-grandson.

“But Megain? No. That said, I very much doubt that she would opt to come anyway.”

A second person said: “Prince Harry and Archie could come back to see the Queen and Prince Philip, as they are family but not Memeagain because she only wants to come for the publicity and upstage everyone else.”
