The claim was made by Robert Lacey, author of ‘Battle of the Brothers’ which is published later this month. Mr Lacey’s new book focuses on the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry and argues this has deteriorated sharply in recent years.

This includes Harry and Meghan’s dramatic announcement that they intended to step down as senior royals in January of this year.

Mr Lacey said: “The problem with the Royal Family is that it doesn’t know how to do ‘woke’.

“Woke is not going to go away.

“It’s here to stay, and Meghan is the very embodiment of it.”

Meghan has been outspoken on a number of issues including women’s rights and the environment.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also been accused of making partisan interventions in the upcoming US presidential election.

Republican Congressman Jason Smith wrote to the British Ambassador to claim their comments represent “an inappropriate act of domestic interference” in American politics.

He said: “By allowing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to retain their titles, and these political comments to continue, the British Government is effectively condoning interference in the 2020 United States Presidential Election from officials at the highest level of the British establishment.”

“As you know, the British Royal Family has long observed a policy of strict neutrality in regard to political matters.

“I am therefore concerned by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s recent comments regarding the United States Presidential Election, especially given international conversations surrounding foreign interference in our election and the Duke’s status as a guest of the United States.

“These actions represent a serious breach of the British Royal Family’s policy of political neutrality and an inappropriate act of domestic interference by one of our closest allies.”

Piers Morgan, host of Good Morning Britain, has called for Harry and Meghan to lose their Royal titles over their politically charged remarks.

Last month Donald Trump was asked about Meghan’s latest comments at a White House press conference.

He replied: “I’m not a fan of hers.

“And I would say this — and she probably has heard that — but I wish a lot of luck to Harry, because he’s going to need it.”

After stepping down as working royals Harry and Meghan briefly stayed in Canada before moving to California shortly before the state went into coronavirus lockdown.

The couple recently brought a £11.2 million home to the north of Los Angeles.

The luxurious property comes complete with a swimming pool, tennis court and children’s cottage.
