Meghan Markle news: Sussexes to snub Britain with global brand ‘aiming at the US’ | Royal | News (Reports)

Meghan and Prince Harry may snub Britons and target a US-based audience with their future work, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams claimed. The expert commented the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s deals with Spotify and Netflix and the much-anticipated launch of their foundation Archewell one year after they first announced their intention to step back as full-time working royals.

He told Express.co.uk: “They are aiming at an American audience and a certain demographic.”

Meghan and Harry signed deals with the two streaming platforms in late 2020.

Their multi-year deal with Netflix was announced in September.

While neither the organisation nor the Sussexes have confirmed its value, experts believe it could be worth up to £190million. 

The Sussexes broke the news of another multi-year deal, this time with Spotify, in December, when they released a brief teaser in which they announced the launch of Archewell Audio.

This production company is set to create podcasts exclusively for Spotify in the foreseeable future.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex struck these two deals only a few months after they officially stepped down as senior royals.

Speaking about Meghan and Harry’s situation one year after their first statement on Megxit, Mr Fitzwilliams also said: “They will regard the year as a success. 

“They are based in Los Angeles, with links to the British taxpayer severed and the ability to use their contacts in Hollywood.

“Their deals with Netflix, Spotify and the Harold Walker Agency will clearly make them megabucks.

“Their brand should have global reach.” 

Given the disruption created by the worldwide coronavirus crisis, Meghan and Prince Harry have yet to launch their foundation and have so far released only one episode of their series of announced programmes and shows.

A holiday special was released on Spotify at the end of last year. 

During this show, the Duke and Duchess didn’t have live guests on their show but opted to play pre-recorded messages from a host of high-profile names from the worlds of philanthropy, social activism, entertainment, and sport.

Among those who shared personal anecdotes, inspirational messages and their hopes for the future there were singer Elton John, producer Tyler Perry and TV host James Corden.

Introducing their features, Meghan said during the special episode: “We thought, ‘what if we can bring together some people that inspire us — people that we admire — and get their thoughts on what they learned from 2020?’.”

During the show, Meghan and Harry also featured a special live guest – their son Archie. 

As the episode was ending, the Sussexes wished a happy new year to their listeners before the Duke told his son he would speak into the microphone.

Meghan then asked her son whether it was “fun”, to which he responded “fun?” before being led by his beloved father to say “happy new year” to the audience.

As the podcast ended, the family of three could be heard giggling and laughing aloud.
