Prince Charles, 71, is the future head of the British Royal Family and in charge of funding both his sons’ Prince William, 38, and Prince Harry’s royal work and lifestyles. This is due to change as Harry seeks to become financially independent after stepping down as a working royal. However, the matter of finding has caused tensions between Charles and his sons

However, money is said to be a point of tension between Charles and his sons whose relationship “blows hot and cold”, a new book has claimed.

Finding Freedom by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand is an official biography charting Meghan and Harry’s unprecedented step away from royal life at the start of the year.

The book was published by Harper Collins on August 11 and contains sensational new claims about the circumstances which led to the couple’s royal exit.

These include the alleged rift between brother’s William and Harry and their sometimes tense relationship with their father.

Mr Scobie and Ms Durand write: “Prince Charles, who funds many of his own public, charitable and private activities through the revenues of his private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall ‘controlled the purse strings’ which also caused some issues between William and Harry.

“The brothers sometimes had to vie for additional funds for projects from their father, who also helped cover expenses related to Camilla and some of those for his sons (including Kate and Meghan’s wardrobes).

“‘They actually genuinely have to debate who gets what amount of money from their father to fund their projects’, an aide said. “Add in the fact that there is an inherent hierarchy and that is really tricky.’”

In his review of the book, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: “The book lays bare the rift with the Cambridge’s which seemed so obvious on the appallingly organised Commonwealth Day.

“To be fair, the creation of the ‘Fab Four’ was a totally artificial one.

“Racist trolls and paparazzi intrusion have added to the stress which they finally found unbearable.

“Yet when Meghan talks of ‘giving her life’ to the institution of monarchy, it’s important to remember that they didn’t last two years after they married as senior working royals.

“They also were quite prepared to cause a crisis when they stepped back.

“They come across as a couple with many talents but who are also extremely selfish and controlling.”

He added: “The rift between William and Harry is terribly sad, this won’t help to heal it and the far from flattering portrait of Kate won’t be helpful either.”
