An insider admitted it is “hard to imagine” them creating the “next Only Fools and Horses”. Meghan and Harry have been busy building their own media empire since standing down as senior Royal Family members in March last year.

In September it was announced they had signed a deal with streaming giant Netflix.

The couple will produce documentaries, films and children’s programmes for the streaming giant.

Harry and Meghan are also hosting a podcast series for Spotify, with the first episode released last month.

According to the couple are also considering producing comedy shows.

Speaking to the paper an insider said: “Meghan and Harry’s approach to their TV ambitions has always been serious, but it’s hard to imagine them coming up with the next Only Fools and Horses.”

Only Fools and Horses was a popular comedy series broadcast by the BBC between 1981 and 2003.

In 2004 it was voted Britain’s best sitcom in a BBC poll.

The Duke and Duchess have filed trademark protection documents for Archewell Productions, their media arm, with the UK Intellectual Property Office.

The Duke is also working on a mental health documentary for Apple TV along with talk show host Oprah Winfrey, a family friend.

However there are no indications when this will be broadcast nearly two years after it was first announced.

In March a new Disney nature documentary, voiced by Meghan, was released.

In September Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said how delighted the company is to have struck a deal with the Duke and Duchess.

He said: “Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership.

“We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”

The first episode of Archewell Audio, a festive special, was released last month.

It featured celebrities such as Sir Elton John and James Cordon along with a number of activists.

Reacting to their deal with Netflix Meghan and Harry commented: “Our lives, both independent of each other and as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit, of courage, resilience and the need for connection.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”

Meghan and Harry recently moved into a £11.2m home in a town north of Los Angeles.
