During the Royal Rota podcast, ITV’s Chris Ship and Lizzie Robinson discussed the fact Prince William had chosen to issue a statement regarding the inquiry while Prince Harry has not. Ms Robinson stated it is not a great surprise that the Duke of Sussex has not commented on the inquiry.

Ms Robinson said: “This week we learned that Harry is getting regular updates and is aware of everything that is going on.

“I don’t think that is a great surprise, a source said, ‘you do not need a public statement to imagine how he is feeling privately.

“‘People know how much his mother means to him.

“‘He has spoken out bravely in the past about loss and grief, and the immense impact it has had on him.

“‘Sadly, some people are not just seeing this as a drive for truth, but also trying to use this as an opportunity to try to drive a wedge between the brothers.”

Mr Ship replied: “I thought that was pretty significant, how you could ever question someone’s grief for their mother.

“Just because Harry hasn’t spoken about it doesn’t mean he is not feeling it equally as powerfully as William.”

Last week in a statement, Kensington Palace said the Duke of Cambridge welcomed the inquiry, saying: “The independent investigation is a step in the right direction.

Ms Rulli asked: “Under other circumstances do you think the brothers would have made a joint statement?”

Mr Scobie replied: “It is interesting, I was surprised we heard from Prince William this week and I have been trying to figure out whether there are politics behind the decision.

“Is there a reason to show support for an investigation such as this at such an early time?

“Because I could definitely imagine them both wanting to say something when the investigation has concluded.”
