The brothers have had a difficult relationship over the past couple of years, with Harry admitting they are not as close as they used to be. William was also said to be upset when Harry made the decision to leave the Royal Family, especially the way he announced it without the Queen’s permission and on the day before Kate’s birthday. They reportedly went several months without speaking at all and only recently got back in touch.

Now, as Harry turns the same age Diana was on that fateful night in 1997, the princes will likely be reflecting on her legacy and their separate lives.

A royal source told Vanity Fair that the princes will speak, saying: “They always talk on important days like that.”

The Duke of Sussex will also speak to his father Prince Charles and the Queen, who he sees regularly over Zoom.

According to a family friend, the Queen loves seeing her great-grandson Archie on screen and has commented on a red streak in his hair.

However, the coronavirus pandemic makes travel from the US to the UK difficult, so it may be a long while before they see each other in person again.

That said, Harry, Meghan and Archie are reportedly planning to spend an extended period of time in the UK next year.

Omid Scobie, co-author of the recent biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex entitled ‘Finding Freedom’, said Harry’s move to the US was his “destiny” left by Diana.

He said: “This is a man who said he wanted to continue his mother’s work.

“He’s at an age now where he’s taken that baton and is able to run with it in a way that he never would have been able to within the House of Windsor.

“That’s very powerful and exciting.”

Meanwhile, royal commentator Ingrid Seward claimed Harry is not looking back at all.

“He’s embracing his new life and everything is an adventure right now.

“He has moved on very quickly and I don’t think he misses his old life at all.”

Ms Seward added that, while Harry’s departure may be a sore spot with many members of the Royal Family, Diana may well have approved of his decision.

Indeed, Diana had often longed to break free of the “prison” of Kensington Palace, even considering moving to the US herself.

The royal writer said: “Diana often spoke about wanting to move to America; Harry’s actually done it.”

That said, she admitted she was still surprised Harry decided to leave the UK, because he has always loved British life: polo, the countryside, shooting, Scotland and the military.

After Diana’s divorce from Prince Charles in 1996, doors started opening for various opportunities around the world, but she did not want to leave her sons Harry and William behind.

In a heartbreaking twist, her life was cut short after a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997 when Harry was 12 years old and William 15 years old.

She was just 36 when she was killed in the crash, something which will likely be on the minds of both her sons today.
