Prince William has been accused of setting Prince Harry up to fail, as explosive details of the pair’s rift continue to emerge. Royal biographer Robert Lacey revealed that Prince William was incensed and jealous at being “overshadowed” by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the spotlight. Mr Lacey’s new book Battle of Brothers details Prince Harry and William’s different royal paths and the ongoing rift between the two brothers today.

Speaking to Good Morning America earlier this week, Mr Lacey detailed how Prince William exacted revenge on his brother by “setting him up to fail”.

It suited William to have a “court jester” and somebody “who always carried the blame” until his brother met Meghan Markle and wanted more than his traditional role.

Mr Lacey explained: “There is a sense in which William could be criticised for setting Harry up to fail.

“It suited the elder brother so well to have the court jester, to have the guy who always carried the blame, both when they were teenagers and now”.

According to the royal biographer, Prince Harry grew “increasingly unhappy in this role and took his chance to break free when he met Meghan”.

Mr Lacey added: “He wanted more than he had. He was inspired by her, and the Palace couldn’t handle that.”

He went on to suggest that Harry and Meghan became “too big” for the Royal Family.

The royal expert said: “They were these mega-rockstars. They overshadowed William and Kate and they had to be edged out.”

Mr Lacey spoke out to US TV network ABC News in his first interview on American television.

Earlier this week, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally unveiled their website to replace Sussex Royal.

The Archewell website currently consists of only one home page and lists its address as offices for Harry and Meghan’s Hollywood agent.

However, fans of the couple can already subscribe for emails about “its activities and initiatives”.

The couple, who announced in April they were forming ‘Archewell,’ are aiming to officially launch the foundation in the New Year.
