Kate Middleton has spent her 39th birthday at home after her family threw her a surprise tea party. However, due to the national lockdown announced by Boris Johnson, other members of the Royal Family such as the Queen were not invited.

Kate attended the low-key event instead of hosting a shooting party, which she traditionally did before the coronavirus pandemic.

The Cambridges opted for having a quiet tea party as the UK continues to follow lockdown restrictions following a surge in infections.

According to Mirror.co.uk, Prince William organised the party while other members of the Royal Family who were not able to celebrate with them sent their wishes to the Duchess via social media.

To mark Kate’s special day, the official Royal Family account posted two photographs of the Duchess, one smiling during an engagement and the other with the Queen at The Chelsea Flower Show in 2019.

The caption read: “Wishing The Duchess of Cambridge a very happy birthday today!”

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall also uploaded a picture of Kate, with the words “Happy Birthday to the Duchess of Cambridge!”

Royal Fans also paid tribute to the Duchess, who thanked the messages with a heartfelt tweet.

The tweet read: “Thank you for your kind wishes on The Duchess’ birthday.

“Birthdays have been very different in recent months, and our thoughts continue to be with all those working on the front line at this hugely challenging time.”

The Duchess’ reaped praise from royal fans who labelled her “the Children’s Princess,” drawing comparisons with her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, who was dubbed the “People’s Princess.”

One royal fan tweeted: “Happy birthday to The children’s princess!”

Another added: “Happy Birthday to the Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge!! You are a Princess of children’s hearts because you do a lot of good things for them. We love you so much! We wish you good health, happiness and love!”

DON’T MISS

The Duchess has dedicated much of her royal work to young children and last year she published the outcome of her early years learning study.

Language expert and author Judi James analysed the Duchess’ birthday tweet and interpreted the meaning behind it.

According to Ms James, the honest and “stoic” language used by Kate echoes the Queen’s personal style.

The analyst told Express.co.uk: “This very brief message on Kate’s birthday suggests a very responsible and adult approach to the recent crisis. After a few words of thanks, Kate performs a verbal swerve here to remove her own birthday from the agenda and pin-up the front-line workers as central to her and all our thoughts.
