As the NHS becomes overwhelmed due to the rising number of coronavirus cases, Her Majesty is attempting to boost public moral with a heartwarming ‘Clap for Heroes’ post. England was plunged into a third national lockdown this week in a bid to curb the spread of the virus.

The official Royal Family Twitter account tweeted: “Thank you for everyone who continues to play a part to help others during the pandemic, the NHS staff and key workers to those helping friends and neighbours during this difficult time.”

They then tweeted a quote from the Queen’s recent Christmas broadcast.

It read: “Today, our front-line services still shine that lamp for us – supported by the amazing achievements of modern science – and we owe them a debt of gratitude.

“We continue to be inspired by the kindness of strangers and draw comfort that – even on the darkest nights – there is hope in the new dawn.”

Amid the crisis, the Queen has been hailed a beacon of national unity.

Last year, Her Majesty addressed the nation three times. Firstly directly about the pandemic and then a second time on VE Day where she recounted her own experiences.

She then did her annual Christmas Day speech where she praised the acts of kindness saying the pandemic has “brought us closer”.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams previously said how the pandemic has shown the importance of the Royal Family.

“During a crisis like this, you see the purpose of a Royal Family.”

Britain has recorded another 1,162 Covid-19-related deaths as well as staggering 52,618 new daily infections.

This came as Europe’s overall coronavirus cases surpassed 25 million, with the continent recording at least 25,016,506 cases and 559,863 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, UK Government’s statistics show a total of 1,296,432 have now received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The UK currently has two vaccines which have already been rolled out across the NHS.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock expressed hope all NHS staff will be offered the vaccine within the next few weeks.

He told MPs: “We absolutely will ensure that all NHS staff are offered a vaccine in the coming weeks, I mean certainly by the 15th of February because they’re all in category two, and therefore that’s the target.

“I very much hope that the uptake amongst NHS staff will be right at the top level.”

He added: “They will all be offered a vaccine over the coming weeks.

“I hope we can get through all of category two, which includes all health and social care staff, sooner than 15th of February.

“But that’s the target that we’re committed to hit.”

As cases of the deadly coronavirus pandemic continue to rise across the country, the NHS is facing mounting pressure with many NHS Trusts being forced to cancel operations.
