Meghan and Harry are currently living in the US and are set to miss the annual festivities with the Royal Family due to the coronavirus pandemic. Existing COVID-19 restrictions have put some royal engagements on hold, including Christmas, as the “rule of six” and a ban of households mixing is rolled out across vast areas of England. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Los Angeles six months ago and current travel restrictions also mean the couple would need to quarantine for 14 days upon arriving into England.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, a source close to Prince Harry said: “Global travel has been made very complicated by the coronavirus pandemic and at the moment the Duke has no plans to travel back to the UK, certainly not before Christmas.
“The problem is if he comes over then he has to quarantine and that makes things quite difficult.”
The Royal Family traditionally spend Christmas and New Year at the Queen’s Sandringham residence.
On the special day the royals also attend a church service at St Mary Magdalene near the Norfolk estate.
It will be the second consecutive Christmas Meghan and Harry have spent away from the Royal Family after jetting-off to Canada for the celebrations in 2019.
Shortly after returning from across the Atlantic in January 2020, was when Meghan and Harry announced their intentions to quit the Royal Family and become financially independent.
In a rare solo interview on Tuesday, Meghan gave an insight into her personal life as a mother.
Appearing at Fortune’s members-only Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit, the Duchess revealed she would not be proud of herself as a mother if she had not tried to “make this world better” for Archie.
When asked about whether motherhood had made her more courageous or more cautious, Meghan said: “It’s interesting because my gut is that it makes you more courageous.
“It makes you so concerned for the world they’re going to inherit, and so the things that you’re able to tolerate on your own are not the same.
“For you go every single day how can I make this better for him, how can I make this world better for Archie? And that is a shared belief between my husband and I.
In an adorable moment, the Duke of Sussex revealed Archie had recently taken his first steps, along with a number of precious firsts.
He said: “We were both there for his first steps, his first run, his first fall, his first everything.”
Meghan added: “And it’s just fantastic, because I think in so many ways we are fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow, and in the absence of COVID we would be travelling and working more externally, and we would have missed a lot of those moments.
“So I think it’s been a lot of good family time.”
