South Yorkshire Police were called to Park Lane in the Thrybergh area just after 9am, after a man attended Rotherham General Hospital with suspected gunshot wounds.
The alleged victim is believed to be in a serious condition in hospital.
Armed police officers are stationed outside, according to Yorkshire Live.
