The US Airforce B-52 strategic bomber was spotted entering a holding pattern shortly after 3pm.

The aircraft is understood to be attempting to land at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire.

The jet let off a 7700 Squark, a special purpose emergency code, to notify UK airspace of its intentions.

The bomber is currently dumping fuel before landing at the RAF base.
