Walsall fire: Firefighters rush to horror blaze at factory – metres from apartment block | UK | News (Reports)

A derelict factory has caught on fire in the Walsall Town Centre. Fire crews are currently on scene at Marsh Lane and were called to the scene at 18:24pm Thursday. Six pumps and a hydraulic platform are currently in attendance and tackling the flames.

Pictures and videos have begun surfacing online as locals stand in disbelief.

The factory is right next to an apartment block as some recording have claimed they can see the smoke or fire from their homes.

It is currently unknown if there have been any injuries or deaths.

The cause of the blaze is also not yet clear.

“We ask residents in the vicinity to keep their windows closed whilst we deal with the incident.”

Another building on the same site was reportedly subject to an arson attack last year.

West Midlands Fire Service have tweeted a series of images showing the extent of the town centre blaze.

Crews are still on scene battling the fire and have warned residents nearby to keep their doors and windows shut.

West Midlands Police have posted to their Twitter account stating that they are in the area to assist.

They have added that the road is closed and they have begun evacuating nearby residents.

They added that locals should avoid the area.
