The Brexit Party leader warned the new Tier restrictions for millions of people were similar to a national lockdown for England. He tweeted: “Why can’t Hancock just be honest and tell us this is a national lockdown and will last for months?” In tweet came in response to another post which said: “Three quarters of England will be under tier 4 from a minute past midnight on the first day of 2021, Matt Hancock announces.”
Earlier in the House of Commons the said the Midlands, the North East, parts of the North Wst and parts of the South West would be moved into Tier 4 from 12.01am on Thursday.
Hospitality venues and non-essential shops are closed in Tier 4 and households cannot mix.
He told MPs: “The NHS is under very significant pressure; there are over 21,000 people in hospital with coronavirus right now,”
“Unfortunately this new variant is now spreading across most of England and cases are doubling fast. It is therefore necessary to apply tier four to a wider area.”
