Earlier this month it was revealed that Meghan and Harry will take part in an “intimate” and “wide-ranging” discussion with American TV legend Oprah Winfrey. But the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be “appalled” by the Sussexes’ decision to tell their story in a televised interview, a source alleged to Us Weekly.

The source told the magazine: “It’s just beyond the pale for William and Kate, especially in light of the dreadful timing with Philip in the hospital.

“They are utterly aghast.”

Prince Philip was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital on Tuesday evening last week as a “precautionary measure”.

This week Buckingham Palace said the Duke of Edinburgh is “comfortable” but is not expected to leave hospital for several days.

In the Palace’s short statement on Tuesday, they said: “The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection.

“He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days.”

Meghan and Harry’s Oprah interview reportedly took place last Tuesday.

Ms Winfrey is said to have spent two days with the Sussexes filming the interview.

Earlier this month, Meghan and Harry confirmed they are expecting a second child.

A spokesperson for the Sussexes said in a statement: “Archie is going to be a big brother.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

During their Oprah interview, Meghan and Harry are not expected to talk negatively about the Cambridges.

Another source told Us Weekly: “They won’t talk negatively about Prince William and Duchess Kate.

“They don’t want to put any more fuel on that fire.”

Speculation over a rift between William and Harry has risen over the past few years.

In 2019, during ITV’s ‘Harry & Meghan: An African Journey’ the Duke of Sussex admitted he and his brother were “on different paths”.

He said: “Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under, inevitably stuff happens.

“But look, we’re brothers, we’ll always be brothers, and we’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I will always be there for him and as I know he will always be there for me.

“You know, we don’t see each other as much as we used to, because we’re so busy. But, you know, I love him dearly and the majority of the stuff is created out of nothing.”
