Kate has been credited to be a balm for Prince William’s reportedly fiery personality. Royal expert Robert Lacey sensationally claimed in his upcoming biography the Duke of Cambridge had shown quite a temper in the past.

But his wife Kate has helped Prince William to calm this alleged outbursts, an insider has said.

A source told the Daily Telegraph: “When William is flying off the handle, it is often Kate who pulls him back.

“Sometimes William would let the press get to him.

“Kate would always be the one to say: ‘Let it go’.”

Mr Lacey’s book, Battle of Brothers, claims the Duke of Cambridge left Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, shocked after he lashed out at his father in front of her.

The royal author wrote: “Camilla had been horrified by the ranting and raving that William could unleash on occasions against her husband — letting rip with no apparent inhibition in her presence.

“The rows had been earth-shattering, by her account, with William doing the shouting and Charles submitting meekly.

“As she’s described these distressing episodes, William would hold nothing back.

“He could summon up a wrath to match the importance that he attaches to his challenging role as the future king.”

The Duchess, who officially joined the Royal Family by marrying Prince Charles in 2005, opened up on this unexpected side of Prince William with close friends, according to Mr Lacey.

She reportedly told them: “The boy’s got a temper!”

DON’T MISS

In his book, Mr Lacey suggest the Duke of Cambridge has had a relationship filled with these spats with Prince Charles until recent years.

But the changes experienced by the Royal Family, including the departure as senior royals of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and Prince Charles’s growing role within it as he readies to become King, appear to have brought the pair closer.

Mr Lacey said: “It should be stressed that in recent times — and particularly since the adjustments that the Royal Family had to make in 2019 and 2020 in the wake of their disagreements and the departure of Harry — father and elder son have grown much closer together.

“Prince Charles and Prince William now clearly appreciate the need to work closely together for the future of the monarchy — whether that proves to be a brotherly reconciliation next year or some regulated and agreed form of effectively permanent division.

“Their father-son spats are said to be episodes in the past.”

Prince Charles himself spoke about the work he has been doing in tandem with his son in an ITV documentary focused on the Duchy of Cornwall.

Aired last year, in this two-part film Prince Charles spoke about the inevitable transition taking place when he becomes the new monarch – and how touched he has been to see Prince William being interested in his work.

Asked about how he feels about the “succession” to the Duke, who will inherit the Duchy, Charles said: “Confronting your own mortality is a very good thing for you, if I may say so, it’s quite good for the soul.”

In the documentary, Prince William also shows appreciation for his father’s work with tenants and organic farming.

The Prince of Wales said: “I couldn’t believe it. I was deeply touched and moved by what he [William] said.

“It practically reduced me to tears, it did really because I suddenly thought… well just hearing that from him, has made the last 50 years worthwhile.

“I want to be able to potter round, you know on a stick, in my dotage, saying gosh look at this, you know.”
