Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William did not meet Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s son until a week after he was born. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex kept the arrival of their son private and have refused offers for Archie to have a royal title. Royal commentator Carole Malone claimed it was “odd” Kate and William waited a week to meet their nephew.

Speaking on the Channel 5 documentary ‘William And Harry: Princes At War’, Ms Malone said: “When Archie was born, William and Kate didn’t actually meet him for a whole week.

“I think that would fuel rumours of a rift because I think that’s quite odd.

“No matter how tired Meghan was feeling, you would still let the closest member of your family in there because it’s a joyous event, why wouldn’t you let members of your family in?”

Royal expert Robert Jobson added: “They maybe didn’t see little Archie but maybe at that time there was a misunderstanding between the two.

“They probably weren’t on the best of terms but the Royal Family are the same as everyone else.

“They’ve got their certain manners and protocol but the fact is it’s just a family that’s all it is.

“Sometimes things aren’t clicking.”

Royal author Eve Pollard noted: “They probably thought ‘let’s give them a week’.

The announcement follows the release of their first Spotify podcast on Tuesday which saw their son Archie make his broadcast debut – but the show has yet to break into the streaming service’s top ten most popular podcasts, climbing from 32 to 15.

Commentators have already speculated that Harry and Meghan will have to draw in large audiences if they are to justify the lucrative contract their production company Archewell Audio signed.

Archewell’s press secretary said: “Founded earlier this year by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell uplifts communities through non-profit partnerships and creative activations.

“It’s a place where compassion matters, communities gather, and storytelling is the engine.

“The website has been updated to reflect the work Archewell has undertaken throughout 2020 and to create a place for people and communities around the world to share their stories.”
