Police officers were seen near Redcliffe Gardens and Holcombe Road, Ilford on Thursday night.
At least four police cars, one police van and as many as eight officers have been spotted and the area has been cordoned off.
The Met Police said they located and arrested a man armed with a knife following reports from the public.
Police were called at 1.55 pm on Thursday, January 28 to reports of a male, armed with a knife, behaving aggressively at Endsleigh Gardens, Ilford.
