The incident took place on the M6 northbound stretch between Junction 8 and Junction 9. Shortly after 5.30pm, Highways England said two lanes have been closed with delays of up to 30 minutes. The traffic agency confirmed crews from West Midlands ambulance service and the Central Motorway Police Group have been deployed to the scene.
At this stage there are no reports of any injuries.
The road traffic incident has also affected motorists travelling on the M5 northbound.
In a post on Twitter West Midlands Roads said: “#M6 north has 30+ minute delays due to a collision just before J9 #Wednesbury.
“Also affecting traffic on #M5 north.
“Plan ahead and allow extra time.
