Should the Government have gone through with the rumoured plans, Greater Manchester would have to close its bars and pubs.
But Mr Burnham has now rejected any potential local restrictions, insisting instead on a national “circuit-breaker”.
He said following a meeting today he “unanimously rejected” the lockdown, adding Greater Manchester would “stand firm”.
Mr Burnham said: “The only certain thing to work is a national lockdown.”
