Meghan and Harry’s Instagram handle @SussexRoyal has been removed from the list of social media accounts owned by members of the Royal Family on the Crown’s official website, Royal.uk. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Instagram account has been counted among four other official channels on the tab dedicated to this social media platform on the royals’ website until August 3.

However, it has since been removed from the tab – alongside with Prince Andrew’s social media handle @HRHTheDukeofYork.

The remaining Instagram accounts listed on Royal.uk are The Royal Family, Kensington Royal and Clarence House.

The first one represents the Queen, the Wessexes, Princess Alexandra, the Kents and the Gloucesters.

Kensington Royal is the official account of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, while Clarence House represents the Prince of Wales and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

When contacted by Express.co.uk, Buckingham Palace did not comment on this changes on the Royal Family’s official website.

Express.co.uk understands the reason behind the removal of the Sussexes and the Duke of York’s social media accounts from Royal.uk is due to their recent change of status.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s Instagram account has been inactive since March 30, when they published a message dedicated to their community.

Outlining their future endeavours, Meghan and Harry thanked their supporters as well as announcing they would spend the following months working behind the scenes to help with the coronavirus pandemic and launch their new organisation – Archewell.

This message marked their last known official activity as senior royals, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as full-time working royals the day after.

Prince Andrew’s Twitter and Instagram accounts have also been inactive for several months.

The Duke of York last posted on his platforms on November 20 – when he issued a statement saying he was temporarily stepping back from public office in the midst of the Epstein scandal.

DON’T MISS

The Duke wrote: “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support.

“Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.

“I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein.

“His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure.

“I can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives.

“Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.”

Unlike Meghan and Harry, Prince Andrew continues to be a senior royal but can’t carry out royal duties for the time being.

Last month, Prince Andrew saw his official website dukeofyork.org quietly taken down.

The information reported on that domain, including Andrew’s charitable work, his daughters’ biographies and news regarding his entrepreneurship scheme Pitch@Palace were moved on a page dedicated to the Duke on Royal.uk.

At the time, Buckingham Palace said Andrew’s website was no longer accessible because the contract with the hosting provider came to an end and was not renewed.
