The relationship between the two duchesses has been heavily scrutinised by royal commentators and fans alike ever since Meghan was introduced to the world as Harry’s fiancée in November 2017. Just months into the former actress’ marriage to the Queen’s grandson, reports of friction with her new sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, began to emerge.

But an explosive book exploring the ups and downs of Harry’s relationship with Prince William, author Robert Lacey claims the two ladies enjoyed a decorous relationship.

Kate, 38, and Meghan, 39, treated one another as “cool professionals”, according to the book.

But the author does not say the same for the bond between the once famously close princes.

Details about the royals’ relationships have been published in an excerpt of Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult, in the Daily Mail.

Mr Lacey wrote: “They might not be best-buddy material, but they found themselves, sister-outsiders in their extraordinary royal situation, and both of them cool professionals, treating each other with mutual respect.

“Each was far too canny to make an enemy of a prospective sister-in-law – it only made sense to be friends.”

Mr Lacey said William, 38, and Harry, 36, had “never hesitated to tell each other exactly what they thought and felt”.

This, he claimed, had led to friction between Prince Charles’s sons.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have denied collaborating with authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

But the Mail on Sunday has claimed 49 pieces of personal information about Meghan published in the book prove the duchess had colluded.

The paper claims she used her friends as “de facto media relations agents” to feed information to the authors “which could only have come from her”.

The mother-of-one is suing the newspaper for publishing extracts from a letter she wrote to her father Thomas Markle.

In new court papers filed on Friday, the Mail on Sunday claimed Meghan does not have “any reasonable expectation of privacy” because she secretly shared details about her private life with biographers.

After spending last Christmas on Vancouver Island, the Sussexes are said to have decided to celebrate their first festive season since Megzit at their new home in California.

The couple, along with 17-month-old Archie are preparing to mark the occasion at their £11 million Santa Barbara mansion.

Vanity Fair quoted a source close to the pair as saying: “At this stage they are really enjoying their new life in California and their new home.

“There are currently no plans for them to return to the UK for Christmas.”
