The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who quit royal duties earlier this year for a new life of financial freedom in America, have secured a multi-million pound agreement with Netflix to make their own shows. But some people took to Twitter and claimed they were cancelling their subscriptions after Meghan and Harry’s deal was announced.

One wrote: “May well cancel my subscription to Netflix ..”

Another tweeted: “Cancelled Netflix. Not paying one penny to them.”

A third fumed: “Not only will I not be interested in anything they have to say I will cancel my subscription!”

Another hit out: “Watch them on Netflix? I’d rather cancel my subscription.”

A fifth blasted: “If @netflix want to blow their money then that’s their choice.

“However we also have our choice of withdrawing our Netflix subscription.

“There are other mediums out there to switch to other than Netflix. Let’s cancel our subscription.”

One Twitter user said: “Thank you @netflix for the deal with H&M.

“I know it’s also your own interests but it’s really a good thing for Meghan and Harry.

“They are an inspiring couple and we will support them in whatever they are going to do with you.”

In a statement, Meghan and Harry said they will be producing a range of content that “informs but also gives hope”.

They said: “Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

“As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”

The Sussexes added that they were “pleased” to be working with Ted Sarandos, co-chief executive officer and chief content officer of Netflix, and his team “whose unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action”.

Mr Sarandos said: “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”

Projects already in development include an innovative nature docu-series and an animated series that celebrates inspiring women.

Former actress Meghan, 39, and Harry, 35, ended royal duties on March 31.

They are now living in an £11 million mansion in Santa Barbara with their one-year-old son Archie.
