Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have long advocated for stronger support and regulations on social media. Royal podcast Heirpod host Omid Scobie and Maggi Rulli discussed a recent interview from Prince Harry where he discussed his relationship with it. The pair concluded that while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appreciate the benefits of social media, changes must be made to minimise the negatives.

Ms Rulli concluded that during his conversation with Fast Company magazine, Prince Harry had suggested when the changes they want to see on digital platforms have been implemented, they may then return.

Mr Scobie said: “The last episode we spoke about the reports that Harry and Meghan were quitting social media.

“At the time I had spoken with a source close to the Sussexes who had really sort of written it off as speculation.

“It was great to hear Prince Harry pretty much confirm that in an interview.

“They asked him about his and Meghan’s approach to social media.”

Ms Scobie noted that Prince Harry had highlighted the importance of social media and outlined the possibility of the royal couple returning to it.

He said: “Prince Harry went on to say that despite its documented ills, social media has a really powerful means of connecting us with communities.

He said it was vital for us as humans in this particular day and age.

She said: “I think he was kind of referencing that maybe they will come back if the digital world becomes the thing that they want to see.

“I kind of got the feeling from the interview, for them to come back it would take some changes.

“They are not going to say never, almost like they hope they will be able to come back but they don’t want to come back until it is a new world in digital media.”
