Meghan and Harry are currently living in Los Angeles after announcing their bombshell decision to leave their senior roles within the Royal Family at the end of March, 2019. The couple’s desire to form a new financially independent life outside The Firm was thought to have been triggered, in part, by differences between Harry and his older brother as well as their contrasting views about the future.

Royal author Robert Lacey underpinned the differences between the two in his bombshell book Battle of Brothers: William and Harry –The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult and in an interview suggested a “long-term solution” would be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoying “the freedom of America” while Kate and William focus on “duty”.

Mr Lacey previously explained William felt Harry was moving “too fast in his courtship” of Meghan when they started dating in 2016.

In another tell-all book about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titled; Finding Freedom, authors Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, claimed William feared Harry had been “blindsided by lust”.

The quartet once dubbed the “Fab Four” were last seen together at the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey in March and the book claims Kate “barely acknowledged ” Meghan at the event.

In a recent interview, Mr Lacey explains the differences between William and Harry stemmed from what they learnt from their childhood and the breakdown of the relationship between their parents Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.

He said: “The lesson that William took from the breakdown and the emotional chaos was at least he had this duty, this responsibility to be King.”

He added: “There, on the one hand, you have duty, and on the other hand you have Harry emerging from the same emotional chaos. He takes a different lesson. His parents were locked into an arranged, loveless marriage, and he’s not going to make that mistake.

“He’s going to go for love, and that’s what he’s done with Meghan, unapologetically.”

Mr Lacey claimed a huge row broke out and William refused to attend a family lunch before the crunch discussions took place, as he did not want to to be in the same company as Harry.

He said: “Both are volatile and tend to fly off the handle; we saw the truth of that earlier this year in January at the Sandringham Showdown, when the row exploded into the open.

“The Queen said, ‘All right, let’s have meeting next Monday at 2 o’clock, where we’ll sit around the table and hash it out with all our advisors, private secretaries, the courtiers. But before that, we’ll have a family lunch where the family can just sit together and talk’.

“One prince said ‘no, I’m not coming to that, I’m not sitting with my brother’, and the prince who said that was William.”
