Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s TV interview set to spark ‘enormous fallout’ – expert | Royal | News (Reports)

Sky News’s royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills described the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to sit down with the American chat show host, who attended their royal wedding, as “huge”. She warned that when other members of the Royal Family have taken part in tell-all interviews the “fallout has been enormous”.

Ms Mills highlighted Diana opening up to the BBC’s Martin Bashir in 1997, as well as Prince Charles’s interview with Jonathan Dimbleby in 1994.

Writing for Sky News, the royal expert said: “Royals in recent years just haven’t done this kind of tell-all interview, which is why Harry and Meghan’s decision to sit down with Oprah Winfrey is huge.

“When other members of the Royal Family have done it, the fallout has been enormous.

“Just think back to Princess Diana’s Panorama interview 25 years ago and the interview Prince Charles gave to Jonathan Dimbleby.

“The repercussions for the palace meant anything too personal in interviews became off-limits.”

During her Panorama interview, Diana sensationally said there were “three of us” in her marriage to the Prince of Wales, in reference to Camilla.

Ms Mills warned Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah, which airs on US television network CBS on March 7, “could be a particularly uncomfortable watch for the Windsors”.

The programme will be split into two parts, with Meghan speaking out about “stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood…to how she is handling life under intense public pressure”.

Ex-Suits star Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, quit royal duties on March 31 for a new life of personal and financial freedom.

Their interview marks almost one year since Megxit.

The former actress and the Queen’s grandson are now living in a multimillion-pound mansion in California with their young son Archie.

Meghan and Harry have also signed lucrative deals – thought to be worth well over £100 million – with Netflix and Spotify.

On Sunday the couple announced they are expecting their second child.

They released a black and white snap showing them posing under a tree with Meghan resting her head in Harry’s lap.

A spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
