The revelation came in a new tell-all biography called Finding Freedom, which looked into the former Sussex royals departure from the Royal Family. Meghan and Harry left the Royal Family on March 31, and now live in Los Angeles. Meghan had just started dating Prince Harry in May 2017, when Pippa was married to James Matthews.

Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, authors of Finding Freedom, revealed Pippa was not excited about inviting Meghan to her wedding.

They said Meghan was “somewhat of a reluctant addition” to Pippa’s wedding guest list.

They added: “Both the bride and her mom, Carole, privately harboured concerns that the American actress’s presence alongside Harry might overshadow the main event.”

Ultimately, Meghan did not attend Pippa’s wedding, but was originally set on making a positive first impression.

Meghan was determined “not to make a misstep at Pippa’s wedding”, according to Mr Scobie and Ms Durand.

She worked with her friend Jessica Mulroney to create a look which was “stylish without being splashy”.

But the former Duchess of Sussex never needed the look, as at the last minute Harry and her decided she would not attend the wedding.

Meghan did attend the reception afterwards however, and only cancelled because of a controversial story published the same day.

According to Mr Scobie and Ms Durand, after deciding not to attend the wedding Harry dropped Meghan off at an Airbnb rented by a close friend.

Meghan got ready for the reception there, while Harry set off to Englefield for the church service.

The former Duchess switched from her previous look into a “decidedly unflashy long black gown”.

From there, Harry and Meghan set off to the wedding reception.

Despite Pippa’s worries about Meghan, the reception went well according to the authors.

Pippa had couples sit separately at the reception, and later Harry and Meghan reunited and “spent most of their time chatting about their evening apart”.

They added: “They called it a night close to 2am, a protection officer driving them back to Kensington.”

Meghan would go on to attend the Wimbledon women’s final in July 2019 with Pippa and Kate.

A source close to Kate said to the authors: “They had a wonderful time. The whole day was lovely.”
