The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are understood to be very close to their adorable grandchildren – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Royal commentator Tom Quinn said they hoped the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would choose a country house close to their Highgrove home in Gloucestershire. However, William and Kate had other plans for themselves and their children.
They decided that they would set up home at Anmer Hall, on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, which is many miles from Highgrove.
Mr Quinn told the Channel 5 documentary ‘When the Middletons Met the Monarchy’, how Prince Charles reacted to news that his grandchildren would be living so far away.
He said: “He was shocked and a little saddened that William and Kate decided that their country house should be in Norfolk, a very long way from Highgrove in Gloucestershire.
“It sort of left him slightly out in the cold.”
Anmer Hall was gifted to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge by the Queen.
The royal couple usually split their time between their Sandringham residence and Kensington Palace.
It is understood that for most of the lockdown Prince William and his family have been riding out the pandemic at their home in Norfolk.
Recent times have seen an improvement in the relationship between the Duke of Cambridge and his father.

“He realises that his own reign will be a shorter one than his son’s, and therefore it is crucial that William is involved in all long-term planning.”
They added: “They have been spending more time together and are much more aligned.
“Both are more comfortable in their own skin – and with each other.”
