The future King made the comment to medical staff during a visit to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Thursday. Charles was showing his support for the UK vaccination programme which was initiated at the start of last week.

Britain was the first major western country to approve and begin administering a Covid-19 vaccine.

Speaking to hospital staff Charles commented: “I think I am way down the list and will have to wait.”

Priority is currently being given to those aged over 80 and health and care workers.

On Wednesday it was announced more than 137,000 people in the UK have received coronavirus vaccines thus far.

The programme is being rapidly ramped up with hundreds of additional vaccination centres opening up this week.

Back in March Charles was diagnosed with coronavirus though he only experienced mild symptoms.

He self-isolated at Birkhall, his home on the Queen’s Balmoral estate, whilst recovering from the infection.

Charles’ visit to the hospital was accompanied by his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.

Both Charles and Camilla wore masks and protective goggles during their visit.

Prince William was also diagnosed with coronavirus in April, though this wasn’t revealed to the public until November.

William explained he decided to keep the condition private to avoid causing undue public alarm.

Speaking about the Prince’s hospital visit Coral Boston, a senior infections control nurse, said: “Charles talked about the disproportionate numbers of BAME people that Covid affected and how important it was for people of colour to have the vaccination.

“It was great that he acknowledged that.

“He also mentioned that he would like the vaccine but because he’s had Covid he carries the antigen.”

Thus far the UK has recorded 1.91 million coronavirus cases since the pandemic began.

Some 65,500 people have died within 28 days of being diagnosed with the virus.

On Thursday it was announced millions more people will be moved into the toughest tier three coronavirus restrictions from 0.01 AM on Monday.

Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, as well as parts of neighbouring counties, have been moved into tier three.
