Prince Harry and Meghan Markle must “earn their stripes” in order to achieve the “authenticity” they need, a public relations expert has warned. Nick Ede, who worked with the Duchess of Sussex before she met the Duke, spoke to Sky News about the couple’s exit from the Royal Family one year on. He claimed that the couple appears to be “almost clutching at straws” at the moment as they try to find their path.
Mr Ede told Sky: “You know, you look at celebrity in a big way, and you think a celebrity will do their autobiography, they’ll do their film deal.
“It’s basically that kind of blueprint, and they’ve done it all in a year, you know?
“They’re becoming a global entity. They’ve got the podcast.
“They’ve got the Netflix deal, they’ve had the warts-and-all autobiography.”

He continued: “It has been a very interesting journey to watch.
“I feel like Meghan and Harry at the moment are almost clutching at straws at what [their brand is].
“Is it the politics, is it women’s rights?
“You have to remember that two years ago Meghan was a Hollywood actress in a B-soap, and Harry was a member of the Royal Family, who do great things.”
The Sussexes officially stepped down as senior royals at the end of March last year, and have since acquired a number of ventures.
In September, they announced that they had signed a deal with streaming platform Netflix to make films and documentaries.
At the end of 2020, they also confirmed that they had secured a multi-year agreement with Spotify to produce and host podcasts.
The couple also recently began to move forward with plans for their non-profit, Archewell Foundation.
They have been clear across all roles that they will focus on topics of interest and importance to them, including gender equality, mental health, racial awareness and environmental issues.
