Prince Charles has returned to his Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire after visiting Prince Philip in hospital in London. The Prince of Wales reportedly spent 30 minutes with his father, who had been admitted to King Edward VII’s hospital last week. While doing this, Charles, who is also the first royal to visit the Duke of Edinburgh, gave a “worrying sign”, according to biographer Angela Levin.

She told talkRADIO: “[Philip] did walk in quite spritely, I watched him walk into the hospital.

“So I think that that is a positive sign.

“But a slightly more worrying one was when Prince Charles left the hospital.

“He had travelled a very long way from his country home.”

Ms Levin continued: “He looked as if he had tears in his eyes, he really did.

“Now that could have been a fly going in or just being very moved by seeing his father.

“We don’t know, but luckily we haven’t, as far as I know, heard anything yet.

“So no news is good news in a way.”

The royal was taken to King Edward VII’s on February 16 last week “as a precautionary measure”, according to Buckingham Palace.

A statement released read: “The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”

The Queen has remained at Windsor Castle and has yet to visit her husband.

However his grandson, Prince William, has claimed that the royal is “okay”.

During a visit to a vaccination centre, he said that doctors are “keeping an eye on him”.
