Reports of a royal rift between the two Dukes have been circulating for months even prior to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s move to the US. It was recently revealed Harry and William did not speak for around two months after the move.

Omid Scobie, co-author of Finding Freedom – a biography about Harry and Meghan – said the relationship between them “will take time to heal”.

Now, Ken Wharfe, a bodyguard for Princess Diana in the 1990s, has said Princess Diana, the two Dukes’ late mother, would have “quickly instigated a resolution”.

He told Vanity Fair: “If she could see the brothers at war, she’d be very upset about it.”

Harry and William recently teamed up to issue a joint statement in which they announced a new statue will be put up in her honour.

It is due to be completed in July 2021, and will be placed on the grounds of Kensington Palace.

The statement by Harry, 35, and William, 38, had been described as rare.

The two princes said: “Our mother touched so many lives.

“We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy.”

After he was selected for the role back in 2017, the sculptor said: “It is my sole and highest intention to fulfil the expectations of Their Royal Highnesses in creating a lasting and fitting memorial to their late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.”

Prince William and Prince Harry’s alleged feud is thought to be linked to the decision by Harry and Meghan to step down as senior royals and announce it publicly.

Mr Scobie said: “I think really where it went wrong for Harry and Meghan and the Cambridges was that decision to go public with the road map to their new working model.

“It put family business out into the public domain when it should’ve been discussed privately and there was a lot of hurt there that continues to this day.”

The royal expert added Prince William thought the announcement had “damaged the reputation of the family.”

An inside source, speaking to , described the fallout between the brothers as “serious and difficult.”

They added Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle “don’t communicate personally at all”.
