The Queen’s faithful companion Vulcan, a dachshund-corgi cross, died a few weeks ago. He is believed to have passed away at Windsor Castle, where the Queen and Prince Philip have spent the second national lockdown.

The faithful pet is thought to have been buried on the grounds of the monarch’s Berkshire castle.

It is not known how old he was and how he died.

However, he is known to have been at the side of the Queen since 2007 – making him at least 13 year old.

The Queen is now left only with one last dog, Candy – who, together with the monarch and Vulcan, was featured on the front cover of Vanity Fair in 2018.

The death of Vulcan comes just in the run-up to an unusual Christmas for the Queen and Prince Philip, and is said to have ben a blow for her.

A palace source told : “Clearly the loss of a loved pet is upsetting.”
