CEO of Republic Graham Smith has claimed there is no majority for either Prince Charles or Prince William to replace the Queen. Republic is an organisation that campaigns for the abolishment of the monarchy and for Queen Elizabeth II to be replaced by a democratic, elected Head of State.
The Republic CEO told Express.co.uk: “For years there has been polling saying that there is no majority in favour of either Charles, William or other royals succeeding the Queen.
“Clearly, there is a division of opinion and if you want to have a choice of who it is going to be you cannot just pick between two royals.
“You must have a vote, that is called a republic.
“It is time to scrap the whole lot and let the British people vote for the next Head of State rather than us being told we are going to be spectators that just have to like it or lump it when Charles takes the throne.”

He added: “I think we need to move away from people sitting back as spectators being told who their Head of State is going to be.
“We need to have a choice, it is clear people want to have a choice.”
While the campaigner did not provide any details on the polling to which he referred, Mr Smith also criticised the frequent use of social media by some members of the Royal Family.
He stated that no one really cares about the principles or the purpose of the monarchy anymore and have become more interested in the celebrity side of the Royal Family.
Despite these claims, the purpose of the monarchy has been praised by royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, who argued there is still a significant majority in favour of it.
Mr Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “While there have always been some, the percentage of the population that wants to see the end of the monarchy has always been pretty small.
“It still remains small, they are a very small minority of people.”
The leading royal expert went on to praise the influence of Queen Elizabeth II during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Fitzwilliams labelled the monarch a symbol of national unity during the COVID-19 crisis.
He said: “There is no question she is in a pivotal situation as a figure symbolic of national unity at a time where we face the greatest health crisis for a century.”
