The ITV journalist opened up about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure from the Royal Family during this Sunday’s episode of Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh. Mr Bradby said the couple, who are living in America after stepping back as senior working royals, are “content” and “quite excited” by the things they are doing, but added that Harry is “heartbroken by the situation with his family”.

However, the Daily Mail cited a royal source as expressing surprise at the broadcaster’s comments.

The source is quoted as saying: “Surely it would have been better, if this is what Harry feels, that he had said this to his family rather than a journalist.”

Asked if he thought the couple seemed any happier in the US, Mr Bradby said: “So are they unhappy? No, I think they are content, the things they are doing they are quite excited by.

“I think he is heartbroken by the situation with his family, you don’t necessarily need to have knowledge to know that, but I think it is true.”

Meghan and Harry plunged the Royal Family into a period of crisis when they revealed their intention to step back as senior royals just over a year ago.

In the months leading up to the bombshell announcement tensions between the Sussexes and the Royal Family became apparent when Meghan and Harry were interviewed by Mr Brady for an ITV documentary filmed during their Africa tour.

The Queen’s grandson and the former actress are now starting a new life free from royal constraints in California.

8.05am update: William ‘hoped Harry would be there for him’

Prince William hoped his younger brother Prince Harry would be by his side supporting him in his royal role, according to an expert.

Royal author Angela Levin warned the brothers, who have been the subject of an alleged rift, are unlikely to “get back to what they were” due to the way Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to have blindsided the royals when they announced shock plans to step back as senior royals just over a year ago.

Ms Levin told Express.co.uk: “I think they will have a superficial relationship that is polite but I don’t think they can ever get back to what they were because of how they’ve handled leaving the Royal Family.

“I don’t think it matters so much that they left the Royal Family – although Prince William obviously hoped he would be there for him and Harry said one of his key roles was to support his brother – but I think it was the way it was done.”

8am update: Eugenie and Jack could take weeks to share royal baby name

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child together this year – but the royal couple could break from tradition and take weeks to share the baby’s name.

Eugenie and Jack announced their big news last September and the tot is due early this year.

Historically, some royals have taken a few weeks to share their babies names with the world.

Prince Andrew and Sarah, the Duchess of York did not reveal Princess Beatrice’s name until two weeks after she was born.

7.30pm update: Sophie Wessex to replace Meghan and Harry on 2021 royal frontline

The Countess of Wessex will “step up” this year to help fill the gap left by Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure, according to a royal expert.

Sophie and Prince Edward “feel they have been left out a bit” in the past and are now “very keen” for a bigger role, royal author Angela Levin claimed.

She added that the Earl and Countess of Wessex have already started stepping up in the wake of Megxit.

Ms Levin also said the Queen “adores” Sophie, who she described as an “incredibly hard worker”.
